“A well-known psychotherapist, Winnicott, wrote that many people, due to unresolved childhood issues, develop not an authentic Self but a false Self… in psychosynthesis we also refer to it as a survival personality… a state of ongoing discomfort that prevents us from truly loving others, because we do not love ourselves. We human beings are fragile: we need… to come to know ourselves ever more deeply… freeing ourselves from old wounds that, if transformed, can become valuable resources for loving ourselves authentically… and for achieving greater awareness of ourselves and our lived experiences. In many pages of the book, Don Giovanni, in addition to offering important spiritual insights, presents a range of psychosynthesis methods that can foster in each of us a deeper understanding of ourselves and our interpersonal relationships. Roberto Assagioli, the founder of psychosynthesis… regarded the spiritual dimension as an essential element of the human psyche… In the vision of psychosynthesis, there is no separation between Soma, Psyche, and Pneuma—body, mind, and spirit. One cannot understand the psychic life of the human being if the spiritual dimension is excluded… I believe that this thoughtful work… may serve as a valuable tool for reflection for those who wish to know themselves more fully and to develop their relational and empathic capacities.”
