Descrizione
The exhibition cycle hosted in 2023 by Fondazione POMA Liberatutti in Pescia (PT) continues with the work of Mario Grandi, an artist from Pescia (1928–1989).
The exhibition will open on Thursday, 26 October at 18:00 in the presence of the artist’s son, Piero Grandi; Honorary President Rita Fantozzi; President Paolo Trinci; members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors; and the exhibition curator, Marta Convalle.
Thanks to the collaboration of Piero Grandi, who generously made the body of works available, an exhibition itinerary centred on the Frammenti series has been organised.
The thirty-one selected works were created between 1980 and 1989.
«The presence of multiple points of view and the departure from Euclidean perspective bring this body of work close to the artistic current of Cubism. Each canvas appears as a totality of separate parts that need to coexist to acquire meaning,» comments curator Marta Convalle.
The bilingual catalogue (Italian/English), 72 pages, is published by Edizioni Fondazione POMA Liberatutti in the PomArte series. Curated by Marta Convalle with a preface by Paolo Trinci, it includes an interview with local artist Marco Affinati and a critical text by Prof. Paolo Vitali. The volume will be presented during the exhibition opening.
The catalogue may be purchased directly at the Foundation or by contacting the administrative office at +39 0572 1770011.
Mario Grandi
Mario Grandi began painting in 1948. Although initially self-taught, he later pursued formal studies in painting at the Florence Academy and in graphic arts and engraving in Venice and Montecatini Terme. Throughout his artistic career he took part in avant-garde initiatives with young local artists, organised performances, recited his poetry publicly, dedicated himself to Mail Art, and promoted its dissemination. He participated in more than forty solo exhibitions and over one hundred group exhibitions in Italy and abroad. Art, ethical commitment, and civic passion were the true foundations of his life.
