Yorka Rios, born and raised in Havana, is the daughter of Raul Rios, the renowned violinist of Ritmo Oriental, one of the most important and popular Charanga orchestras. She performed with her father for three years at the famous “Floridita” venue. Winner of the XVIII Premio de Habaneras and the Cultural Award at the Concurso Internacional de Canto Mariana de Gonitch, she found a second home in Florence and formed the group Cubania Y Tradicion. With this ensemble, she recorded the album Mison entero (released by Materiali Sonori), featuring guest appearances by the virtuoso Argentine guitarist Daniel Chazarreta (who has performed with Vinicio Capossela, Juanjo Dominguez, and Cacho Tirao) and her father Raul Rios, whose violin further enriches the compositions on the album.
Son, bolero, cha-cha, and danzón are masterfully performed by Yorka’s distinctive Havana voice, accompanied by the musicians presenting her new album.
