Systematic under dictatorial regimes, censorship is an exceptional measure in a democratic state. In our legal system, in fact, there can be no prior control over the content of an expression of thought that could prevent or even merely condition its dissemination. Yet, within the public broadcaster Rai, there have been notable cases—ranging from Dario Fo to the present day.
