The project presents Choro—without strictly philological intent—the principal genre of Brazilian instrumental popular music, which originated in the second half of the nineteenth century in Rio de Janeiro and has developed to the present day. It incorporates European dance forms, elements of African origin, and influences drawn from classical music, jazz, and samba.
Building on the recording project of the Berti–Proietti–Rossini Trio, Choro e Dintorni (CJE Records, 2016), the ensemble is expanded by the imaginative and articulate rhythmic contribution of Mattia Galeotti, completing the line-up as a quartet.
The group performs works by composers such as Ernesto Nazareth, Jacob do Bandolim, Zequinha de Abreu, Pixinguinha, João Pernambuco, and other Brazilian composers, alongside original compositions by Alessandro Berti and Giorgio Rossini.
