The Private Studio of Mario Grandi

Mario Grandi (Pescia, May 8, 1928 – Pescia, December 8, 1989) was an Italian painter, poet, activist, and performer. A self-taught artist, he later trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and attended graphic design schools in Venice and Montecatini Terme. His artistic activity was primarily based in Tuscany. Grandi participated in over forty solo exhibitions and more than one hundred group exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. He stood out for his eclectic output, spanning from painting to poetry, from Mail Art to performance.

The cataloging and digitization of Grandi’s archive was entirely conceived and carried out by Fondazione POMA Liberatutti, representing the natural continuation of a project initiated in 2023 with the exhibition Segni utopici. With the support of the Fondazione CARIPT through the 2023 Restauro del patrimonio artistico e digitalizzazione dei beni culturali grant, POMA was able to undertake and complete an extensive cataloging and digitization project of the materials stored in Mario Grandi’s home, with the collaboration of his sons Piero and Fabrizio, and his grandsons Gabriele, Sarah, and Andrea.
